About the role

The Electoral Finance program plays a critical role safeguarding democracy by ensuring compliance with laws designed to support free and fair elections. The Electoral Finance Compliance Services work unit delivers programs and services to promote compliance with the electoral financing requirements of the legislation administered by Elections BC (EBC). Through ongoing outreach activities, the team ensures regulated participants are aware of the registration, advertising, financial and reporting rules and requirements under the Election Act, Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, Recall and Initiative Act, Referendum Act, and other related legislation to maintain a level playing field in the democratic process.

 

The Team Lead is responsible for supervising staff and overseeing concurrent projects within the work unit. As a subject matter expert, they develop sound procedural frameworks to support processes and service delivery. Our ideal applicant has a proven record of excellence working with a variety of stakeholders, translating complex legislation into plain language, and has a results-focused approach applying exceptional leadership skills.

 

Who we are

Elections BC is the independent, non-partisan Office of the Legislature responsible for administering provincial elections and electoral finance rules in British Columbia. As such we are not a part of government, but report to the Legislature as a whole through the Speaker. In addition to provincial general elections and by-elections, we also administer other events like referenda, and oversee campaign financing rules for all local elections.

Staff are supported to work 3 days a week in our office in Victoria, and up to 2 days a week from home, when operationally feasible. All staff work in office during electoral events.

 

Job requirements
To be considered for this permanent opportunity, you must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration or a related field, and minimum of 3 years of related experience; OR
    • Diploma and 4 years of related experience; OR
    • Certificate and 5 years of related experience, OR
    • A minimum of 7 years of related experience
 
  • Related experience must include:
    • Interpreting complex legislation
    • Developing new policies and/or procedures
    • Managing stakeholder relationships in a service delivery environment, including responding to requests from a variety of stakeholders
    • Preparing briefings or other written summaries for internal or external stakeholders
 
  • Preference may be given to applicants with:
    • Direct supervision of staff
    • Experience collaborating with IT in relation to database design and development
    • Experience leading concurrent projects
    • Previous experience in electoral administration

  • The successful applicant will be required to work full-time in the office for the first few months in the role. Applicants who intend to relocate to Victoria must be prepared to work in-office from their start date.
